Greece
Flavour Origin

Opinions differ on the precise origins of saffron, a spice whose history stretches back to the dawn of civilisation. An intriguing fact about saffron is that although around 90 varieties of crocuses have been identified, all cutivated saffron crocuses around the world (C. sativus) are identical, suggesting they come from a common source. This was most probably Greece or Asia Minor where forms of C. sativus are known in the wild state.
