What is the difference between 'use-by' date and a 'best before' date?
'Use-by': Foods must be eaten or thrown away by this date. After this date, these foods may be unsafe to consume even if they appear fine physically. This is because the nutrients in the food may become unstable or a build-up of bacteria may occur. It is illegal to sell foods after a 'use-by' date as they may pose a health or safety risk.
Common 'use-by' foods include milk, sliced ham and shaved meats.'Best-before': Foods are still safe to eat after the date as long as they are not damaged, deteriorated or perished. The 'best-before' date simply indicates that the product may lose some of its quality after this date passes.
Food can be legally sold after a 'best before' date as long as they are not damaged, deteriorated or perished. You can expect these foods to retain their colour, taste, texture and flavour as long as they are stored correctly.

Sauce or Fridge - Where should I store my Tomato Sauce?
Quite frankly we’re stumped with this one. We love sauce. It makes Australia’s favourite delicacies that bit more delicious. What would a snag be without Tomato Sauce or BBQ sauce?
We’ve engaged our team of food scientists, flavour creators and most importantly our consumers to settle this once and for all. After much debate, that sometimes got quite heated, we have come to a very important conclusion.
It belongs in both!
Our sauces can be enjoyed whichever way you’d like. In case you need your sauce to last longer we recommend that you put it in the fridge after opening.
But after all is said and done, there’s one thing we can all agree on.
MasterFoods™ is Australia’s favourite sauce.
Do you add Monosodium glutamate or MSG to any of your products?
We do not add MSG to any of our products, however some ingredients may contain naturally occurring glutamates.
Do you use GMO ingredients in your products?
We ensure that all our raw materials are from non-genetically modified sources/ingredients.
